1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Jimmy Greaves was his name
he played the beautiful game,
didn’t really need to run
instead scored goals for fun.
Had his picture on my bedroom wall
kicking a muddy leather ball,
I watched him play when I was a lad
at Highfield Road with my dad.
Greavsie hardly broke a sweat
as he stuck the ball in our net,
to see him in action was a treat
amazed at his quicksilver feet.
Without doubt he was the best around
tormenting defenders at every ground,
England’s finest in his prime
the greatest goalscorer of all time.

Harry Kane has just overtaken Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham’s all time goalscorer. In the Daily Mirror this week they asked the top football writers who they thought was the best etc ? I’ve never seen Kane play live only watched him on TV in games, but I saw Jimmy Greaves play my team Coventry City 3 times.
I may be biased but to me Greavsie was awesome, and in my opinion he is our greatest ever goalscorer.
I actually met him once and was in awe and just about managed to get his autograph, which he signed to my then young son stood with me, I couldn’t believe I was talking to a football legend.
Jimmy Greaves the best !
