Jason Targetted by Swedes

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Jason Byrne is up for sale,
The Swedes have made a bid.
It now appears that Shels might nail
A half a million quid.
Of course it’s nowhere near the scale
Of Barca and Madrid,
But Ireland needs this export trail
Just like we always did.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There’s certain folk who shout, “Don’t sell!
We must hold onto Jay.”
But how could you begin to tell
The player he must stay?
This is his chance to do real well,
We can’t stand in his way,
And think how much the sale would swell
The funds at Shels and Bray.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 His journey has been long and rough
To play with football’s cream.
The world of football can be tough,
However it may seem.
We hope Jay gets to strut his stuff
And gets to live the dream,
For doubtless now he’s good enough
For Ireland’s football team.

Notes

Cork City’s Kevin Doyle was transferred to Reading during the season and has been a tremendous success with the Division One table-toppers. Many people here think Cork sold themselves short. Now Jason Byrne, Shels striker and League’s top scorer for the past 3 years, has been the target of a €450,000 bid fro Swedish club Djurgaertens. Should we hold out for more, or should we take the money and run? Incidentally, Doyle, completely ignored by Kerr at Cork, is now being touted as a certainty for an international call-up, suddenly becoming an international player after 3 months at Reading.
