My favourite player growing up as a kid,
Wasn’t Giggs or Zidane,
Outside of football’s glitz and glam,

At the humble Britannia Stadium,
Costing a quarter of a million,

Stoke’s best player in the first few years of my life,
Inspired me to kick a ball when I was five,
He scored the first ever goal I saw live,

But next season he would leave Stoke City,
Which hit me as a heart-breaking pity,
He would go on to bigger things at Cardiff City,

I hadn’t heard of Ronaldo or Cantona,
My favourite player was Graham Kavanagh.
