Nedved

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Nedved!
Your very name strikes dread
Into the heart of the opposition;
In addition,
Nominally,
You are poetry,
As well as in motion.
Talented bi-ped,
You write the ultimate text
Upon the moving blades of the football pitch,
For you symbolise
The harmony of signifier and signified.
Nedved!
Probably the only player ever
To have a name of just 6 letters,
1 vowel and 3 consonants;
And, in consequence,
Probably the only player ever
To have a name of just 6 letters,
1 vowel and 3 consonants,
Who also bears an uncanny resemblance to 70’s motor racing play boy, James Hunt.

Notes

The tournament takes off! I only saw the last 15 minutes but crikey, it must have been good. I have never heard a panel enthuse like that – by the way, as a Stroud Football Poet, could I respectfully point out that the tables used by the panel on BBC were made in Stroud? They are sort of Stroud football tables, I suppose.
