One Hundred And Twenty Five Years

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A new football team was formed
In the year of eighteen eighty three
Calling themselves Singers Football Club
But now known as Coventry City F.C.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Fast forward one hundred and twenty five years
What a very long journey it has been
When winning the England’s very own F.A.Cup
Would become reality and not just a dream.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But every supporter has a favourite era
And each fan a very special time
Winning promotion to the first division
Under Jimmy Hill has got to be mine.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 And who is our best ever player?
Mason, Lauderdale, Bourton, the goalie Alf Wood
Or, what about Humphries, Hudson, Ian Gibson,
Hutchison, Ferguson and Wallace, now they were good.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But it’s not just a long list of players
Who have represented CCFC WITH PRIDE
We’ve had a lot of managers as well
From Frith way back, to Coleman now picking the side.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Let’s not forget all the loyal supporters
What a great set of fans they are
Wearing the Sky Blue so proudly
And travelling the country no matter how far.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 And what a long history we have got
With times of highs, and times of lows
But look, the Sky Blue flag is still flying
We’ve ridden the storms, and survived the blows.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So from Highfield Road to the Ricoh
From the Bantams becoming the Sky Blues
While we all sing together,
We will never lose.

Notes

This is a poem in celebration of my team’s one hundred and twenty five years as a football club, I feel that age myself, supporting the Sky Blues;
they do put you through it! But you carry on!
