‘ Patsy, Will You Pass The Ball ‘?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 ‘ Patsy, will you pass the ball ‘?
Said an angry David Speedie
‘ You’ve beaten the Geordie defence, once already,
To do it twice, is just plain greedy ‘

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Patsy loved that football
From deep within his heart
When on the wing, in full swing
Those two, you’d never part!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As all the Shed heads stood in wonder
On a gloomy Saturday afternoon
Patsy strolled so languidly
Through the backline of the Toon

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 He fell over outside the penalty box
With the ball still at his feet
Got up again, still in control of it
As theToon, all applaud his feat!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 He beat them once, he beat them twice
He turned them inside out
They were dizzy just from watching him
Wee Patsy, was the shout!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Was Keegan some sort of sadist?
As that night on MOD
He insisted they show it all again
That Wee winger on a spree!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Nimble and so dainty
Swift and fleet of foot
With Wee Patsy on the wing, son
Defenders? They just shook!

Notes

As Parry has done a great piece about wingers, I thought I’d add this, It was when Kevin Keegan was manager of Newcastle.

They came to the Bridge, on a roll, Pat Nevin went on a run, beat about three or four of them, had no one to pass to and went and beat them all again ,he did fall over outside the box, never lost the ball, he just held on to it for what seemed an eternity! At least it was to the Toon! They, all to a man, applauded him madly.

We stopped them, when they were having a bit of a winning run, if I remember rightly.

Keegan was interviewed later that evening on MOD, he just asked them to show this piece of action, again and again and again!

He was clearly in awe of Wee Pat!

Who had just run rings round his team on his own.

Awesome piece of wing play from a really terrific little winger.

As you have probably gathered, I’m a big Pat Nevin fan!

peace.
