Sorry

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Political debate
Strong opinions shared
His lecture to Blair
Just so absurd
Apologise for war!
The call was heard
Those lies misled
He went on, undeterred

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Your Hillsborough slurs
Would you be prepared
That simple headline
To retract and reword?
No crumbs to comfort
A hungry Liver Bird
For you it seems “sorry”
Really is the hardest word

Notes

A poem about Kelvin MacKenzie’s appearance on “Question Time” on 11th January 2007, on which he attacked Tony Blair over his role in the war in Iraq. Mackenzie stated that Blair had misled the nation and demanded that he apologise to dead soldiers’ families … almost an exact parallel to his own misleading comments about Hillsborough and subsequent failure to apologise to bereaved families. Was he being sly and manipulative or just incredibly stupid?

Fellow panellist, Claire Short said to MacKenzie: “You’ve hurt so many people. Why don’t you just apologise?”
