The Pro Who Honored His Contract!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’ve struck a deal and will not squeal
Or re-neg on my word
Though the manager and fans alike
May both give me the bird

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 For all sorts of different reasons
I’ve played four games in four seasons
That to me seems a pretty cool return

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But I’ve a contractual agreement
That’s please’s me to see meant
I was able to do nothing and still earn

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I’m ostracized, barred from the side
But that don’t bother me
I’ve forty thousand reasons to be cheerful
And I pick them up each week

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 On the training ground each morning
As the first team start foot balling
I’m sent off to train with the young kids

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I played in Barcelona out there in Catalonia
Where they wouldn’t dream
Of treating anyone like this

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 After four years of keeping fit each week
I’m still not on the team sheet
I don’t even have a squad number
Except on my wage receipt

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 I’m ostracized, barred from the side
But that don’t bother me
I’ve forty thousand reasons to be cheerful
And I pick them up each week

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Some may say I’m greedy
Some say I’m a fool
But I believe it binding contracts
That once signed should be fulfilled

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 I tried to get to the stadium
Why? Just the other day
But its so long since I’ve been there
That I couldn’t find my way

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 I’ll miss the game when I pack up
I really will, its true
Its hectic being a footballer
With so many things to do

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 I’m ostracized, barred from the side
But that don’t bother me
I’ve forty thousand reasons to be cheerful
And I pick them up each week

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 My stance may a humorous thing
To fans sat in the stand
But most of them don’t even know me
As I’m not in the programme

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 The game itselfs been good to me
I’ve traveled far and wide
I’ve played for Holland many times
With dignity and pride

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 There comes a time when every pro
Must hang up his boots
But I’ve no idea where mine are
Or my teams track suits

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 I’m ostracized, barred from the side
But that don’t bother me
I’ve forty thousand reasons to be cheerful
And I pick them up each week

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 Its been so long since I’ve played a game
Although I do keep fit
The rules have changed in many ways
As have indeed the kits

18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 The first team say Hello to me
Though they don’t know who I am
” Who’s that bloke who comes here
To train each day a ball boy or a fan”?

19 Leave a comment on verse 19 0 Each Saturday when our team plays
I’m sat there in the stands
Right behind the team whom it would seem
Enlarge my bank balance

20 Leave a comment on verse 20 0 I’m ostracized, barred from the side
But that don’t bother me
I’ve forty thousand reasons to be cheerful
And I pick them up each week
