Yer First Match Is ….

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Like a ten dollar shake in ‘Pulp Fiction’
Like a glint on the Thames at first light
Like a soul who get’s saved by religion
That’s what yer first match is like

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Like Christmas and birthdays all rolled in to one
Like the first time you rode yer own bike
Like a big bowl of eels on the pier at Brighton
That’s what yer first match is like

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Like a Bob Dylan song that Joan Baez sings on
Like Fulham Road all in blue and so bright
Like ‘ten men went to mow’, becoming yer favourite song
That’s what yer first match is like

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Like cod and chips wrapped in newspaper
That we queued up for each Friday night
A flavour you savour forever to favour
That’s what yer first match is like

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Like standing in line for yer ticket
With yer rattle and scarve, what a sight!
They don’t dress up like that at ‘the cricket’
That’s what yer first match is like

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Like a walk by the river, with yer heart all a quiver
As you catch the glare of the floodlights
Then you know that whatever, you’ll be stood there forever
That’s what yer first match is like

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Like a swim in the sea without sinking
Like holidays and days ‘bunked off’ school
This here poem has got me a thinking
Yer first match is ever so…. cool!

Notes

Er….1959 / 60, Chelsea v Bury or Grimsby, what-ever the order I was at both of those games

I know we had to beat Portsmouth, to get promoted that year, and we did..7 -1!

I was seven, going on eight, stood in heaven with me mates!

peace
