A Day In The Life

Get up nice and early
jump out of the bed,
feel like a kid at Christmas
ready for the big day ahead.

First game of a new season
the sun always seems to shine,
all of life’s worries forgot about
footballs back and I’m feeling fine.

New club shirt recently bought
purchased from the clubs shop,
big sponsors logo across the chest
and not cheap at forty quid a pop.

Meet fellow fans in the pub
chat away over several beers,
one says we’re going to win the league
another reckons it’ll end in tears.
¶ 5

I take my seat in the ground
it always feels good to be back,
and then I’m up on my feet
as my beloved team goes on the attack.

The atmosphere inside is electric
“Come on you Sky Blues is the roar,”
then us supporters go berserk
when our new striker did score.
¶ 7

In the second half he bangs in another
he was unlucky not to have scored four,
his name echoed around the stadium
we’ve got ourselves a new player to adore.

So we got all three points on the day
Coventry City fans left full of cheer,
in fact I was that pleased with the result
In the pub I bought a round of beer !
