I drove me mammy mental
Thirty nine and eleven was the cost

Football was its name
Which you can’t play in black plimsolls in the frost !

I went to shoe shop after school
Drooling like a smitten fool
At cherished boots as they lay nestled in the box

FHW*’s where I dragged me mam
To part with princely sum
I knew how hard she struggled for that dosh

But I loved her even more
Much more than I ever did before
Without those boots all self esteem was lost !

I got them home indoors
Adored them on the floor
Dubbined them and laced them up criss crossed

Each morning I awoke
I gave those shining toes a poke
When I wore those boots, Pele ceased to be boss !
