Fulham, a few weeks on

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I take my eye off them a minute…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Having just remembered to see how we went,
I looked us up on the internet.
Fully expecting to get a reward
Anticipating that they’ve put to the sword
the two teams I knew we were scheduled to meet
Both sitting ducks we’d be certain to beat.
Instead to my horror I find the reverse
We fell to them both. And wait – it gets worse
Not only we lost, we DID NOT SCORE A GOAL
From 5 goals to nothing. Pride before fall?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So this is what it’s like being a Fulham supporter.

Notes

Australian, I know nothing about football (eg. I still call it ‘soccer’). But a friend of mine is vitally, tragically, dedicated to Fulham and, captivated by his enthusiasm, I decided I’d follow them too (having previously been an Arsenal ‘supporter’, simply because they were the first team I ever heard of, back when I was a kid). Immediately after declaring my allegiance, Fulham went on a 3 win run, culminating in their 5-0 defeat of Wolves. Obviously my support was telling.

Then tonight I remembered to wonder how they’ve – I mean we’ve – gone since I last checked. My reaction manifested as this poem.

It’s impossible to imagine a better club to support!

Editor’s note:

G’day Russ, and Welcome.

This is a place where you can be a fan of any ilk (even a non-fan), as long as you write about football / soccer.

You’ve captured perfectly the pride and pain of being a follower!

Clik.
