1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Once again the twelve-page pull-outs
Greet the long-awaited Kick Off.
More than one match proves a sell-out,
Though the tickets are a rip-off.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Lust for Footie’s still unsated,
We show no signs of fatigue.
One vexed question’s much debated:
“Who d’you want to win the League?”

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Like the sound of Windows Wenger whooping “Are you watching, Spurs?”
Relish Rafael Benitez bawling “Look who’s Top the Perch”?
Reckon rouble-laden Roman’s ripe to reap his rich reward?
Or suspect he’ll see no Silver till he’s signed up Sven and Tord?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Wander up and down the Country,
Conduct random interviews.
You’ll be barking up the wrong tree,
If you’re seeking something new.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Thrust your mike into some faces,
Ask the Punters for their tip.
Sure enough the age-old Chorus
Issues forth from ev’ry lip:

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 “We hate Arsenal, we hate Chelski,
Liverpool we can’t abide.
City’s prospects don’t look healthy,
Everton for shame should hide…

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Ask us who should sip the Bubbly,
When this new-born Season’s through,
We’ll all howl, not whisper hush’dly:
‘Anyone, oh, ANYone, just ANYONE,
But You Know Who!!!’”

Notes

This is a re-working of my earlier poem Anyone but Man U, written this time to conincide with the start of Season 04-05. As in the earlier poem,I try to speak for the two-thirds of the English population who do not support Manchester United.
