Lament for a fellow fan

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They mess you up your football teams
They may not mean to , but they do .
They fill you up with hopes and dreams
and add some glory just for you .

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Fan hands on misery to fan.
It deepens like a coastal shelf ** ……….

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It’s often lonely being a fan.
But then we spot another one !
You recognise that hound dog look,
those eyes that say if only.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Brightness comes to Monday mornings ,
greetings of “Cobblers ! ”
met with a hearty ” Toffees !! ”

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Tales of victory (rare) , angst , poor decisions .
The partisan view of what might have been.
The camaraderie of the terraces lives on .

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But no more .
Here’s to you Stephen.
Son of Sixfields gone too soon ,
Cobblers to you mate

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 ** Apologies to Larkin

Notes

Stephen Hewitt was a friend and colleague for close on 20 years . Along with a great many others I was deeply saddened by his recent death at far too young an age .
Stephen had many strings to his bow and contributed greatly to his profession and local communities . Whenever I came across Stephen one passion shone through and talk always turned to form and prospects , in his case of his beloved Northampton Town. His football knowledge was wider – one of the few to provide an answer within 10 seconds to that essential question -” what is the only English football club with a name containing no letters which can be coloured in ? ”
