Looking For Ego (with Jose)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 the trouble with having no ego
is that sometimes it’s so hard to cope
so Jose if somewhere you’re listening
help me you’re my only hope –
’cause I’m looking to find me an ego
I’m searching around everywhere
for most of my life and since Spring fifty-five
but I can’t find a trace anywhere

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 yes I’ve tried being carefree and up-beat
the other fans think I’m insane
for at Chelsea we’ve always been nearly
but you’re just on a much higher plane –
and you’ve done it – you’ve been there you’ve got one
when you open your mouth birds sing
whatever it is that they’re wanting to know
you can answer them all everything

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 but I just wish I had me an ego
and I wish I could look half as hip
If I maybe don’t shave-wear a long coat and wave
would they say I was just on a trip?
and you don’t know how hard it’s been lately
you ‘re so cosmic so deep and so wise
and for poor fans like me with no ego you see
well the tears they just fill up my eyes

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 for I’ve tried emulating the wealthy
the Beckhams Ronaldo and Owen
and apart from some cups and promotion
there’s been nothing to help me keep goin’
so why then was I born without one
so ego-less classless and free
does anyone know how you get an ego?
I wanna be Jose not me!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 still i guess that’s my lot for this lifetime
I must have done something for sure
I probably did something in one of my lives
that made me so humble and pure –
but i’m still really desperate for ego
it’s ok for Jose he’s fine
this season it’s true – he’s got egos for two
but hey where in this life is mine?

Notes

To any one muiasyubdestanding htis poem.I don’t reallty htink I haven’t got an ego. It’s a joke..I had a feeling that this poem might wind a few poeple up.Who does Crispin think he is.etc; I also knew someone would e-mail in to say I was on a massive ego trip. Can I just say this is meant to be a funny poem? A send up of how we are all actually on ego-trips but we all think we’re not and that we are so cool…get it?The great thing about Jose Mourhino is that he is on one and he knows he’s on one.
.Following Chelsea since I was 8 up until now has been a love-hate roller-coaster nightmare, fuelled with huge passion but little major success on the field .If only a certain Mr. Mourhino had been around then how different it might have been! I grew up in a e little house, just off the Ifield Road, with a little football rattle and scarf.. and my plastic blue star Chelsea badges (one of which I just got again after 45 years off Ebay!) .It was barely a Bill Robertson, Reg Matthews ,Peter Bonetti Peta Borata, Carlo Cudicini, Petr Cech throw from Stamford Bridge ..My mum wouldn’t let the other older kids in our street take me to a Blues game til I was 9 because of the big crowds that would stream past our door,.so I just missed out on seeing them win the championship by a year or two..But I do just remember the celebrations in the street and blue and white streamers.(Clearer than the Coronation!).MY constantly inebriated step dad , with whom I had many a run-in ,was always banging on about going to the Moscow Dynamo game in ’48. First game i went to was Spring ’57 and Roy Bentley, who I had the great pleasure of meeting and working with this year..had gone by then ( Chelsea Championship captain 54/55)….but it’s all come full circle now..finally ..fingers crossed that is!
