There was a lack of football on TV.
So you invented the Champions League.
But now your players are so tired you say.
Wheeze is to scrap FA Cup match replays.Chop, change, tinker and tweak.
When will […] -

You take ten points off.
You give four points back.
Off, back, off, back,
You hang ’em on a rack.
You do the Hokey Cokey,
And you turn around,
Is that what it’s all about? You take two more off. […]

The forecast isn’t too good today –
The sky is o’ercast and grey.
By three pm ’twill be bucketing down,
‘Least that’s what the weathermen say.
But my favourite team is playing at home,
And there are […] -

When Dominic finds the Net again, hurrah, hurrah,
We’ll give him a stand’ ovation then, hurrah, hurrah.
We’ll all beg for his autograph,
And a selfie, and we’ll share a laugh,
And we’ll be all smiles […] -

It’s our first season back in the Top Flight,
Our learning curve’s still pretty steep.

We cried “Bring on the Hatters!”
We thought “Already won.”
But Luton Town would not lie down,
Defeated us two-one.
So out of the Cup we crash.
Our Silverware hopes are in tatters.

At Selhurst Park they sent Dom off,
Though it was ne’er a foul.
They’re threat’ning yet more points to dock,
They kick us when we’re down. But we are made of steely stuff,
We’ve got hairs on our […] -

You’ve taken ten points off us,
But we are not dismayed.
There’s plenty more still up for grabs,
Loads matches to be played.Of ten points you have stripped us,
But we’re not mice, we’re men.

We’ve really messed things up.
But we’re not worried in the least,
There’s three teams worse than us …I popped into the barber’s,
To get my long hair clipped.

By those who don’t succeed.

Some goals to score you need.
Sure, you can save a penalty,
Can hit the post or bar,
But if you don’t put ball in […] -

Thanks Gacina,
I still have not come back down to earth myself either. Also, as I wrote in my footnotes, I loved your Lineker quote poem… short, sweet and to the point. COYB, NSNO, etc…

Hi Crispin,
Thanks for the featured poem for the Arsenal Premier League victory. I love that photo showing the Arsenal ladies and fans in full rattle and rosette mode. I’ve seen it before quite a few times and, I think, a bit iconic. I think it was before the Gunners victory against Liverpool in the 1950 FA Cup Final. Great photograph.
Thanks
Joe

Thanks for that Joe. Yes it’s been some season we had a blip but came out of it and finished strong. A mate of mine supports West Ham here in Coventry and my next door neighbour is a Spurs supporter, and both are getting edgy ! I like the Championship though as it’s competitive and has some good teams, players, and fans. Anyway we are back in the top flight and who knows what will happen ?
Cheers. Kev.
