‘Knighted’ by the Kop, no need of sword.
My boyhood hero, with every goal scored.
On my red jersey, I wore the number 8.
A record maker, a legend, an all time great.
He helped achieve Bill Shankly’s […] -

It’s not possible for Liverpool to play behind ‘closed doors’
We might not hear them but there will always be 96 roars.
And the spirit of other Reds, ashes buried in the kop goal.
Anfield can never be empty […] -

He would have been 50, God bless you Paul.
He died at 19, he went to the match, that’s all.
4 helium balloons in the Anfield breeze sway.
Beneath the eternal flame, lit all night and day.
2 Birthday balloons […] -

Can a Fox cry, one did today?
Five lives tragically taken away.
A crying Fox is something new.
I shed a tear alongside him too.As a red I cheered your fairy tale.
Brilliant to see the top dogs […] -

A plot of land that served them well.
But now LFC have decided to sell.
A training ground for many a year.
But an Academy move now is near. The Melwood walls got a lot higher.
With added twists of barbed […] -

If you see a white feather floating by.
Coming from nowhere out of the sky.
Down from Heaven a feather to drift.
An Angel is near by, a loved ones gift.Into the face of a child a feather blew.
Down from […] -

The Belfast Boy, a player complete.
Had the football world at both feet.
Art like gift, born to dazzle, to win.
Never again to see the likes of him.In United Red, in native Irish Green.
The greatest […] -

‘Justice for the 96′ we know the chant well.
All the flags have the same message to tell.
The headline news always reads the same.
’96 innocent victims’ we recall every name. When candles are lit or when the […]

And so the day has finally come.
When justice may at last be done.
I had my doubts, hopes been low.
Dashed by many a liar in full flow.6 people will have charges to face.
6 snared rats no longer to […] -

Chelsea’s ‘Chopper Harris’ defined the hard man role.
He would even tackle his own Mother to stop a goal!
Liverpool had the ‘Anfield Iron’ Tommy Smith his name.

The truth we wanted, it was our demand.
And justice its companion, hand in hand.
The years rolled on, wasted with rage.
Corruption and lies hogged centre stage.Eyes grew tired with grief, patience […]

A sad day in our history now we mark.
The Liverpool clouds grey and dark.
In days of tantrums and obscene wage.
No too many will adorn histories page. But Ronnie Moran was a different breed.
He played for […] -

No heart, no passion no desire or care.
Just poster boys with their perfect hair.

In 1981 the cylinder was spun.
No shot was fired from that gun.

Ample time for changes to make.
But the […] -

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.

Hi Joe
Shouldn’t your title read your poem Farewell Europe England to everyone exccept Aston Villa ?
I know you mention them in your poem , but I do feel sorry for Villa re the national press .
Largely ignored. the hype was was all about Man City & Arsenal with a bit of a nod to the Hammers..but hardly a mention of Villa..
So well done to them

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Hey Kev
Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.
Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..
so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!
Best
