140 Years

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A football club was formed
in the year of 1883,
calling themselves Singers F.C.
then becoming Coventry City.
Fast forward to the present day
what a 140 years it has been,
such as winning the FA Cup
became reality and not just a dream.
Every fan has a favourite era
each supporter a special time,
winning promotion to the First Division
under Jimmy Hill has to be mine.
And we’ve had many legendary players
like Clarrie Bourton, the keeper Alf Wood,
George Hudson, Tommy Hutchison,
Ferguson and Wallace were very good.
But it’s not just a long list of footballers
who represented the club with pride,
there’s been a lot of managers as well
with Mark Robins now in charge of the side.
And let’s not forget the loyal supporters
a brilliant set of fans they truly are,
travelling up and down the country
to grounds that are near and far.
What a history this great club has
with times of high and many lows,
but the sky blue flag is still flying
it’s ridden the storms, and took the blows.
So from Highfield Road to the CBS Arena
and the Bantams becoming the Sky Blues,
while we sing together
we will never lose !

Notes

My football club Coventry City has just celebrated its 140th birthday.
So I’ve written some verses on the club, from its creation up to the present time.
What a rollercoaster ride it’s been but like the phoenix rising from the ashes, it keeps bouncing back. Here’s to many more years for the football club, and it keeps on moving onwards.
