50th Birthday tribute

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 He hollered
He vent his spleen
But still he was prevented
From joining the boys in green

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Ok, ok, for the pedantics :
It was actually white on the day
But what was the ridiculous technicality
That meant he couldn’t join the fray?

Notes

Happy Birthday to John Aldridge : 50 today.

Poem refers to his outburst when trying to get on as Sub for Ireland versus Mexico in the World Cup of 1994 in the USA.
Ireland were playing in their away strip of white.
Aldo let the fourth official know – in no uncertain terms – that he was not impressed at being delayed on the touchline. I think the man to be subbed was already off the field of play, and yet Aldo was not being let on by some very fussy officials.
