Boundary Park – Early 1970’s

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I could have been sitting comfortably
On a match bus to Maine Road,
Or happily sticking pins in my eyes,
But that daft promise to Dave Booth
“Look, if they get promoted from the fourth, I’ll come and watch”
Silly bugger me – they did!
So here I am.
Its winter
Its pouring down
I’m cold and wet
And its Latics first Tv appearance.
(I’ll watch the post mortem later, after a pint of anaesthetic)
And we’re losing,
Six bloody nil!
Why am I here?
Still, a promise to a mate is unbreakable.
To be fair, Latics are not that bad,
But sadly, t’other lot are better.
But why tonight, why on Television?
A prat throws something onto the pitch (a towel?)
And police “collect” him
“Make him watch the highlights as a punishment!”
Nice to see the terrace wits are still alive.
Final whistle – thank God.
Time for a pint in the Boar’s Head in consolation
Back Saturday?
Probably
No choice
Thanks Dave

Notes

For Dave Booth, a mate since 1963
