Clichés In The Wind

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 how many times
must a fan turn his head
and pretend that he cares much at all ?
yes and how many times
are you glad when you’re out
before the First Round draw is called ?
the answer my friend’s a cliché in the wind
the answer’s a cliché in the wind*

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 yes and how many times
must we all pinch ourselves
and remind us all why we believe
there’s only thing that we must focus on
and that’s getting out of this League…
and Man U or Chelsea at home in the Cup
is not what we’re longing to win
the answer my friend is always the same
who cares if it’s clichés in the wind

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 yes and how many times
will the moaners all cry
as we chase for the ultimate prize
and Derby** was great but I’d much rather wait
for the one dream that fills up my eyes
but the answer’s the same let’s just focus our aim
and the Cup is just clichés in the wind*

Notes

Sutton Utd 2 Forest Green Rovers 1 ~Sat 14 Oct 2016
4th Qualifying Round F.A.Cup

A nod to Sir Bob* ,with our (FGR’s) timely exit to Sutton United (ouch) on a 3G pitch (as opposed to 1G or 2 D) for my part, never has the oft coined phrase..”Great …brilliant ..now we can concentrate totally on the League and getting out of it…top “.(and not in the Play Offs please)” felt more apt.

Would I like to see 5000 at the New Lawn and hundreds in the fields on the hill opposite with the sheep, against my other life-long love: Chelsea… at home? Yes. And would I like us (FGR) to go up as Champions? Yes.Yes. Yes. A million times yes . Point made.

Interestingly, Guiseley (as in ‘the mighty Guisely’)who we play at home on Saturday, now face an unplanned FA Cup replay midweek as do some of the top National League teams..Bring on Saturday.

*Written/read to the tune of Blowing In The Wind). With apologies and congratulations to Bobby Dazzler Dylan this week on the Nobel Prize for Literature and Poetry .

** Forest Green Rovers 3 Derby County 4
F.A.Cup 3rd Round – Jan 3 2009.
