Echoes of Cheltenham

5 years ago at Whaddon Road:
insipid no-show by Town
results in 2-0 defeat.
Parkin sent off; fans’ fury
directed at feisty defender Gurney
who, unwisely, responds with
mouthing and gestures.

Now 5 years on and
Robins up and at ’em approach
mirrored by buzzing Barnet Bees.
Early goal conceded and
Town struggling to get a grip
in midfield engine room;
home side dominant against promotion hopefuls.
With seconds to go vital corner
shanked into stand by Brown;
the cue for more vitriol to
be poured on troubled waters.
Brown’s response reminder of Gurney:
mouthing, gestures and
kisses blown to the wind.

5 years ago on way home:
a startled deer careering
down misty main road.
Surely a metaphor for
Town defenders caught in the floodlights.
No startled deer this time but
players look like frightened rabbits.
