(Elland) Road To Nowhere

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Languishing in the depths of despair,
Wins at a premium. Ordinary players
In a very ordinary team; once the best,
A footballing force in the land. Feared,
Respected – though rarely loved. Now,
Mocked, ridiculed; detractors gloating.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Men in suits tried to live the dream, but
Dreams are just that. And when you wake,
They vanish…reality hits. No cash, no real
Way of moving upwards and onwards. It’s
A whirlpool of doubt, missed chances, and
Missed opportunities; the only way is down.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But really, what can you say – Bates, Wise,
Poyet; Chelsea moving to Yorkshire. Hardly
A recipe for success, when you recall old
Rivalries. A club in turmoil, a club in need
Of a break. A ground barely half full; Bremner
And Revie helpless ghosts of the glorious past.

Is sympathy enough to survive on ?
