I was there!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I was there when handy Andy
headed it into the net to leave
Arsenal on their backsides.
I was there when Bamber rammed
it into the roof to leave me short changed
as coins cascaded onto Stratton Bank.
I was there when Charlie crashed a
rising drive into the goal
against the Gills;
there (in spirit) when grinning striker
White struck twice in the replay.
I was there when Alan Mac’s
deflected strike took us up
only to be brought back down to earth with a bump.
I was there when Zippy planted the
penalty past Poole to take us
into the promised land of the Premiership.
I was there when Scott’s shot crossed
the line to record our first win in the
top league against QP a ha-a-ha.
There when we did the double over them,
Town fans in black garb to mark the
passing of the Premier Leage (R.I.P.)
I was there when Horlock’s howitzer
confirmed promotion back up
to the second division.
I was there for the play-off
near miss versus Brighton;
there for the bobble against Miiiiillwall
and the Chesterfield debacle at Wembley.
I was there on the terraces,
Brook Road, Brentford, when Flint’s
towering header took the tie
into extra time, when Town fans
cavorted and jived, hugged and writhed.
I was there!

Notes

Returning home from Brentford after an enthralling semi final second leg has brought back so many memories – most of them good. As I said to my lads you have to make sure that you are there so that you can keep those memories for ever. Still gutted though.
