Me, me, me, me, me

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It’s never been about being the best,
looking your best,
coming across as a titan,
capable of taking on all men,
all the hype,
never been about that.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You can strip it all away,
and what have you got,
what you show on the field,
not your clothes, stance or talk.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Hard work, belief and mental strength,
to play for something that matters,
not play for your own glory,
people remember the man who gave,
not the one who took away.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So we compare and contrast,
take Rio for example,
somehow propelled as a rock,
unbeatable, unstoppable,
making himself like he’s the team,
derided now for greed.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Take Djimi,
our second longest serving player,
yes believe it if you will,
for his will is to survive,
he’s a fighter,
not the most graceful or elegant,
but he has heart,
he has our soul,
you could see it,
thumping his chest on that bus.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Or take the savvy of our Jamie,
all he wants to do is play for his club,
contracts may matter,
but that’s a matter of course,
somethings just matter more.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 If you’re red,
you’re red through and through,
not like Rio,
probably in all likelihood,
turn up blue.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Besides,
he’s probably better off moving on,
he’ld make a terrible defensive linebacker!

Notes

As much as I’m delighted at the prospect of Man who? collapsing into a whole pile of….well you know….it still gets on my nubins that players look for sympathy when extraordinary wage demands aren’t met. Rio is currently pointing out that contract negotiations take 12-18 months in most cases and his has only been a month. He doesn’t understand why everyone is on his back. Because, son, you don’t care one toss about the club you play for, as long as you get paid more in a week than most of your fans (outside of London and Tokyo) get in 5 years of their working lives. Be thankful you’re in that position. Don’t push it or you’ll end up an unloved, ungrateful has-been. Overhyped, over-sensitive collymodled, self-important so and so. I think it’s gotten to me that…yep…definately think it’s riled me.
