My 8th Birthday

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 19th December 2001.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 My 8th Birthday was an interesting one, I remember it well,
I got up early, excitement forced me out of bed,
Couldn’t tell the time, although I had a clock,
Always got the two hands mixed up.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Still pitch black,
I went downstairs,
To search for the ball-shaped package,
That had been centrepiece,
To my dreams that night.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 My efforts were fruitless,
They must be in my Parent’s bedroom,
So I knocked,
Twice.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 “MUM, DAD IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY!”
They slowly stirred from their sleep,
“Let’s fetch your presents then” one of them said,
I was ecstatic.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 My hands shook with excitement,
As I opened them,
Wide-eyed and grinning,
From ear to ear.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 I did keepy-ups with my new football,
Imagining I was Shearer and my garden St.James’,
Until I heard a shout from indoors…

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 “One more present, Jack!”
“One more?” I had whispered to myself,
Disbelieving,
This had to be the best birthday ever.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 I raced inside,
I was Kieron Dyer on the ball,
Not in the Ferrari, mind,
I bounded up to my room and looked at my bed.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Laid out,
Immaculately folded,
Was a Sunderland jersey.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 My Mackem Uncle had wrecked My Birthday.

Notes

A true story about when my uncle tried to convert me,I was always going to choose Newcastle- as 7 years on I remember saying to Mum “I told you, I support Newcastle!” And I always will through thick and thin.

After all,
