New World Cup Song / Poem!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What with all the competitions on the radio
To find a new World Cup song
From Jerusalem, The Dambusters to The Great Escape!
Such lists went on and on

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “Change the national anthem”!
Some of the callers said
Lets sing “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”
Or try something else instead

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The passionate and moving songs / poems
That are heard around various fields of green
Tells me that however strange it may seem
We’ve a ready made team of writers here
Who’d pen a new song for the national team

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So all you budding Noel Gallagher’s and Dido’s
Write a new song to cheer yer team on
Who ever they may be
Don’t let people who for the most part
Are hardly what you’d call fans
Have carte blanche on this World Cup piece

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I’m off to have a crack at it, this writing a new World Cup song / poem
Like most of those who pen the prose on how the game affects me
I feel qualified to contribute my entry like anyone else
Can it really take that long?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I’m surprised that all the passionate die hards here
Were’nt questioned for their views
“Football Fans Write New World Cup Song”
Would sure make great front page news!

Notes

Caught a piece of a show on the radio early yesterday morning about the new World Cup song. People then started to text and e-mail in to the show to say that they didn’t like the national anthem and wanted to change that as well to the two or three choices I’ve listed above.

As far as I know the new World Cup song favourite is by Embrace, the tiny bit I heard didn’t seem to grab yer by the throat like the very, very catchy ” Footballs Coming Home” or the really great ” World In Motion”.

Maybe it’s time they pitched it (excuse the pun!) to those who know something of the game and what it does to people both good and bad, the fans, to write the new song for the World Cup?

In truth would anybody be more qualified to comment on the agony and ecstasy or what watching The World Cup does to thee???

peace.

kev.
