Promotion Poem

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Promotion Poem

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The final game for these two camps
Saw Warmley Rangers welcome the division 2 champs.
With Henbury Colts winning the under 13’s
I’ve watched individual talent evolve into hardworking teens.
Because other title favourites openly laughed in their face
Henbury lads enjoy looking back at the ‘runners-up’ race.
While the amber & blacks await their presentation night
They know that others below are still involved in a fight.
With memories of players no longer at their club
Henbury’s champions will honour their memories as they ascend to the division above.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The visitors made changes but showed Warmley respect
Because their hosts are safe as their admirers should expect.
With Sunday morning entertainment ending real soon
We parents look forward to next season’s support
Albeit getting used to football being played in the afternoon!
Tougher they’ll be those division one games
So the lads must work hard for manager Nick James.
Whatever happens next cannot change what you’ve just won
So try your best at the top lads but also have fun.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Whether it’s ‘Powerhouse Povey’ or ‘Menacing Mulenga’
Every player has contributed to the Colt’s big adventure.
The midfield maestro’s have dominated the pitch
So well done to Bennett, Crouch, Anstey and Kitch.
Henbury’s defence worked hard when under the cosh
Full praise to Aaron, Joe, Jordan, Nico, Chris and Josh.
With Sam, Ryan & Luke coming into the fold
The team also welcomed Nick, a servant of old.
Chevar has raw talent with his pace & neat tricks
While George remained reliable as always between the sticks.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 So the ref. blew his whistle to get the match under-way
And football entertained us on this, St.George’s Day.
Warmley were at full strength and showed good metal
While the ‘Champions’ line-up took time to settle.
They were physically strong the home White & Greens
Then Henbury implemented their passing routines.
With both sides displaying desire and will
The first half ended with the score level at 0-0.
A change of personnel arrived in the 2nd half
But credit to Warmley for not allowing an easy path.
A goal from Henbury was next on the agenda
A 1-0 lead courtesy of Mulenga Mutemwakwenda.
The hosts showed character as they battled on still
Only for Jack Povey to strike to make it 2-0.
A long range effort was difficult too see
As Harry Crouch scored goal number three.
With Warmley still working hard to avoid the loss
Jack Povey headed the 4th from Mulenga’s brilliant cross.
With time running out & the ‘Champions’ having fun
Tom Burrows headed well to make the final score 4-1.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 So Henbury are the champions and from Warmley they left
With huge respect & appreciation to every division 2 Ref.
While others may berate you & give you some flack
Henbury Colts say thank you to all the officials in black.
Match reporter (Christopher Crouch).

Notes

My final match report for my son’s team, the only job I can do after having 2 back operations in 3 years. If anyone knows of any writing jobs as I can’t return to manual work….feel free to get in touch:-)
