Reflections on the League Cup

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 These days, it’s big – with the dedicated coverage,
the place in Europe and the prize money, though it remains
that most democratic of the English trophies –
every League team has a real chance
with this one. Worth one of Rio’s
withering glances, when he picked up the trophy,
and it is quite a curiosity in itself,
three-handled, like the Calcutta Cup.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 An obscure object of desire, perhaps, but I’ll tell you what,
it felt like we had to rip it from the Spurs’ grasp,
this first piece of the Domestic Treble
which even Man Utd have yet to win.
