Stupidly Sent Off!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Gaffers stood there ashen faced
As mad megastar trudged off
There was nearly ninety minutes played
When sanity was lost.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 No cheering from the travelling fans
Or chanting from the pews
An angry man has left his team-mates
With it all to do.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Head bowed down he looks toward
The bloke who picks the team
That ain’t no smile aimed his way
But daggers to his chin.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 In sanctum of the dressing room
He unlaces muddy boots.
Will the boys hold on to what they’ve got?
He’s dog meat if they lose.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Dressing room door burst’s open
Skipper marches in
And grabs the red card fruit and nutter
Underneath the chin.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 “We’ve all got mortages to pay
We’ve mouths indoors to feed
You’re sending off nearly cost us dearly
But we held on to that lead

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 A win bonus means a fortune
To all these boys sat here
When you decided on an an early bath
It almost disappeard

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Next time you put your hands up
Trying to knock off some blokes block
Try thinking about the rest of us
You selfish little sod!”

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Man sent off, sits sullen
Alone and cast adrift
In future there’ll be more than a telling off
If he crosses Tommy Smith!

Notes

This poem is inspired by a story that a Liverpool fan told me about Alun Evans (I think) being sent off at Anfield and getting sound some advice, about the team ethic, back in the old days of the hard to come by win bonus, for the future from Tommy Smith!

But then again I could be wrong.!

When Michael Essien got himself sent off at Pride Park on Saturday with minutes left on the clock and us 2-0 up. I just began to wonder what Smith would have said to him (Essien) about his stupidity?

And whats all that cheering for a bloke who’s been sent off and left his team-mates with a mountain to climb, to try and hang on in there for a share of the spoils?

Never quite got the drift of that!
