Swansea 0-0 Chelsea

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Down at the Liberty
They sang ‘Land of my Father’ with vigour
Making the pitch seem small
And the task seem bigger

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The Swans kept the ball so well
Both on and off the pitch
The players expectedly so
But the ball boy too? That’s rich

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Sure, Hazard wasn’t clever
But red card for retrieving a ball?
Do I agree?
Not at all !

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 It didn’t change the game though
So the Swans head for Wembley Way
But it’s the Bantams that we’ll be cheering for
At the avian match of the day!

Notes

January 23rd 2013
Capital One Cup (the old League Cup) Semi-Final, second leg….

0-0 on the night, 2-0 on aggregate.

No question, the better team across the two legs went through.
No rancour from Chelsea fans on that count.

But a very strange sending off.

Eden Hazard tried to retrieve a poor pass from AZ that ran out of play.
But the ball boy deliberately rolled onto the ball and wouldn’t give it up to Hazard.
Eden tried to retrieve it with his hands, but met with resistance.

In frustration he tried to toe poke the ball out from the ball-boy’s grip – certainly with no intention to hurt the boy (boy? aged 17!)

The ball boy then rolled around as if in agony – obviously been watching too many footballers in action!

The referee got it wrong in my view.
He should have been sensitive to the time wasting element aspect.

It turns out too, that the time-wasting was pre-meditated (posted up on Facebook).

On the plus side, both parties apologised to the other after the game.
And apparently the Chelsea dressing room showed him no ill will.
I would say that they’ve learned from the rancour accruing from the Man Utd match earlier this season.

In summary two wrongs don’t make a right, but I think Hazard has been made a scapegoat.

I also feel Swansea FC should face a sanction from the FA for the deliberate and pre-meditated time-wasting, i.e. bad sportsmanship.

Again, no hard feelings towards Swansea, despite my take on the situation.

And normally I’d want them to go on and win, I like the way they play football.
I’m only cheering for the Bantams because of the David & Goliath factor!!!
