Swapping Shorts with Shakespeare

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 On a hot Scots Summer eve
I couldna sleep a wink,
So arose from m’ wee bed
An’ went t’ find a drink,
Should I ha’ a glass o’ red,
Or a lager from th’ can?
I settled on a whisky
For a midsummer night’s dram…

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It was no’ long thereafter
M’ eyes began t’ close,
An’ then I had th’ stranges’ dream
‘Bout th’ Thistle an’ th’ Rose,
Transported back in space an’ time,
T’ th’ medieval village green,
An’ there two sets o’ goalposts stood
Where maypoles once had been……..

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Forsooth there was a footballe gaeme
Before Elizabeth ye Firste Queene,
With bolde Knights in White Satin
Againste ye moody blue Scots teame,
Olde Englande had Will Shakespeare
And maketh no mistake,
They didst muster mighty firepower
Thanks to Sir Francis Drake,
“Zounds! Gadzooks!” ye crowde exclaimed,
Most wondrously excited
To beholde Sir Bobby Charlton
From Manchester Uknighted…

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Then on ye fielde appeared ye Scots,
Behinde formidable Rob Roy,
With tartan clad young Robbie Burns,
Not muche more than a boy,
Ye contest swung from ende to ende,
How ye crowde did roar,
Until ye final trumpet blew,
Four-all was ye score…
Ye peasantry all gathered rounde
Upon ye village greene,
To give three cheers for Merrie Englande
And for Mary, Scotland’s Queene…

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 When ye gallant players shooketh hands,
Shakespeare spake sans shame or guilt,
“Robert, thou canst have mine pantaloons,
If I canst have thine kilt…”
His pants he pulled downe to ye grounde
And for doing a thinge so silly,
Ye Bard was no more knowne as ‘Will’,
But was nickenamed ‘Little Willie’…….
