Sweaty Palms And Nervous Tension

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Nerves all jittery and fraught
fingernails chewed to the quick,
this is the lot of the football fan
end of the season and feeling sick.
One minute you’re staying up
the next on the way down,
that big smile on your face
replaced by a miserable frown.
No time for a sun drenched vacation
gardening, fishing, or a spot of DIY,
this is now a very serious matter
but it’s only football I hear you cry.
Try telling that to the weary supporter
who follows his club home and away,
when faced with the dreaded relegation
may drop to his knees to pray.
At last you know your team’s fate
they’re not going down after all,
so even though the fans are all shattered
they will always love football!

Notes

So another season nears conclusion especially in the Football League. My team Coventry City are so close to a play off place, but whatever happens its been a brilliant campaign. But I know the feeling of your club on the final day needing a win to survive, it is a really tense time.
This is a poem reflecting that nervy 90 odd minutes.
Yet after it all there’s always next season to look forward to !
