The Devil and his Mancs!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The nearest I ever got to heaven
Was a week in May in ’77
But the devil he plays with the best of plans
And swiped the treble from our hands
The league was ours with a game to spare
The F.A Cup was nearly there
The Mancs in red and us in white
We sang and cheered them out of sight

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The first half saw us spread the ball
And redmen gave their each and all
But Stepney saved and Tommy grinned
But we still believed that we would win
Then Pearson from a Greenhoff flick
Drove the ball between the sticks
And Clem he didn’t have a chance
Because of the devil and his lucky Mancs!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But Jimmy Case he saw the sign
Took his chance with boots of iron
He drove his shot and now 1-1
And brought us level, Game On
Our hearts with love and pride and joy
Roared our Anfield glory boys
But stolen from our very hands
The win by the devil and his laughing Mancs!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Our joy short lived with heavy soul
For Macari struck their second goal
The ball hit Greenhoff and our hearts sank
For they smiled the devil and his Salford Mancs!
Bob Paisley’s lads they tried their best
But Emlyn’s tears they came to rest
Upon that turf where they did dance
The devil and his bloody Mancs!
