hearing all the children on the train
the most common sentence that we overheard
was “this is his (or her) first game

these days it is what it is
and judging by the vibe from where I’m sat
the future is all about the kids

throw in the Capital* too
but anything helps at the turnstiles
we wanna see the kids coming through

keep all the cynicism hid
4th Round ties at the ‘sensible’ clubs
saw childrens tickets only a quid

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 babies and toddlers to under eighteens
cheap seats are always the way
grab any chance and make it often
juniors will be adults one day

but try telling that to the mums and dads
the future is all about the kids

Notes

FA Cup 4th Round Chelsea 1 (Oscar) Stoke City O
Spent a great day traveling down on a cheap train ticket to London from Stroud for an afternoon in the rain (and blue sky) at Stamford Bridge. We had a great time even though it was ‘Lattice Fries (for chips) with something masquerading as barbecue sauce? Whatever!

Surrounded by kids, we overheard many of them saying it was their first game ever. And there they were making noise in the quieter areas too, watching and enjoying stars like Hazard, Oscar and Crouch who they’d only previously seen on TV. Brilliant.

OK it wasn’t £1, but with money tight for lots of us out there, now I’ve hit 65 I can get in for £15 each for cup ties for myself and my U-18 grand-daughter.

Oh and by the way it was my grand-daughter’s first game. Oh well..it’s a start and big thanks to Kev for help with booking the tickets..

*Capital Cup
