The Poets Love The Home Team

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The Purists are divided,
though they tend to favour skill.
The Neutrals: undecided.
They just want the match to thrill.
The Debutantes confided
they just have some time to kill,
but the Poets love the Home Team
and the Poets always will.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The Losers have forsaken
football with its bitter pill,
but tomorrow they’ll awaken,
by now they should know the drill.
The Gamblers may have taken
Germany at one to nil,
but the Poets love the Home Team
and the Poets always will.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The little green and yellow flags
outside the windowsill,
the ball fashioned from grocery bags,
the bare foot to instill
the magic of the Child in rags
still dreaming of Brasil.
The Poets love the Home Team
and the Poets always will.
