The Reducer

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 With gravity at a low centre,
you danced around temporary pairs
with teams matched up player for player.
Without seeing, but in your field of consciousness
you could sense it coming:
the reducer.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Their manager said ‘send a message’
so seconds in you evaded the signature
for a package gaining force and momentum
and speed in your direction
from the centre-back as courier:
the reducer.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Just outside your field of vision,
with teams matched up player for player,
you were different and they knew it
so you skipped beyond the skipper
while his brief of deep antipathy
clattered into Pike Position B
over transient rotating LED
for red as a late formality
before the tunnel strut
and brooding bath:
the reducer.
