The Referee

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There are times when we have wondered
What goes on in the ref’s head
Why he gave that penalty?
Why he showed that red?
We tell him he needs glasses
We call him rude names
Some people call us silly
They say it’s just a game
But when a ref’s made bad decisions
In our opinion it costs
It’s not just a game
It’s 3 whole points we’ve lost!
Some refs are whistle happy
Won’t let the game play on
Some miss obvious fouls
We all think it’s a con
We hate his cronies too
The ones who wave the flag
Say the player’s offside
Then we all have a nag
We ask how much he’s getting paid
Who ate all the pies?
The poor guy gets all the stick
He’s the one we despise
Must be hard being a referee
Being hurled all the abuse
From the fans and players alike
Who’d like to see him in a noose
But someone’s got to do it
I’m glad it isn’t me
Although at times we hate him
Take your hat off to the referee.

Notes

He’s the one that always gets overlooked, the only time we take notice is when he’s had a terrible game in which he may or may not have made bad decisions. I like most other football fans, often slate the referee but at the end of the day it’s all opinion and we must take time out to appreciate that it’s a hard job to do. I know I couldn’t do it.
