2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Here we are again, desperate to score
Or York will steal an undeserved draw
Time ebbs away, things look bleak
Urging them to score that winner we seek

Played well in patches but no cigar!
At times looked dangerous on the attack
Depressing lapses, of course, at the back

Donaldson replied, breaking at speed
Bull made a headlong rush to claim
The ball’s taken round, to level the game

We can’t nick a goal, York keep it tight
Terry throws the dice, the Wizard comes on
His first game back, seventy-six minutes gone

Eyes on the Wizard, dazzling white boots

The keeper flaps in despair at the ball
He’d shifted right to cover the threat
Can only palm it high into the net

Team mates mob him, the game is won!
Frustrations released by that single kick
We had no idea, he could run that quick!

All had been anxious, but not lost belief
Grown men are jumping, elation in faces
Shouting, cheering, backslaps, embraces

My knees almost buckle, I’m so relieved
Forget the anguish and all the pain
Your heart is filled with hope again!!

Notes

Aldershot Town’s left back is Darren Barnard. An ex-Welsh International, he has the sweetest left foot you will ever see. So much so, the he has become known as the Welsh Wizard.
