To Be Stuck Behind A Pillar……..

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’re queuing up for tickets
As the rain comes tipping down
On a sticky wicket in a God forsaken town
Two quid’s added to the cost
With the old price, having been crossed out
Do they think that we are loaded
Just because we’re from the South?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The match day office is in a car park
That’s flooding pretty quick
The home fans under cover
Are giving us some stick
In the away end, the terracing
Smells like dodgy drains
As we’re stuck behind a pillar
With a terrible view of the game!

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The daunting sky is getting dark
They’ll need floodlights on the game
If we’re to continue watching idols
Who promise us great fame
Our outlook, like the weather
Is looking pretty lame
As we’re stuck behind a pillar
With a terrible view of the game!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A wee man goes dancing down the wing
He goes outside, then cuts back in
Just then, he hits our blind spot
We roar and there’s a din
But we are blind and still in doubt
Who scored, what was his name?
As we’re stuck behind a pillar
With a terrible view of the game!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The game is getting frenzied
As home team mount attacks
Of us they are in envy
Our strength is what they lack
Our big tall Scottish full back
Tries to clear his lines
Instead it’s like a missile
On course to me and mine
The ball will do some damage
If it hits the fans
All, try to avoid it, each one to a man
We’ve no need to worry
As defense is now our aim
As we’re stuck behind a pillar
With a terrible view of the game!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The game is over, all shake hands
The rain’s still tipping down
A one-nil away win
In a God forsaken town
If that cannonball had hit us
It would’ve surely caused us pain
Lucky for us, we were stuck behind a pillar
With a terrible view of the game!

Notes

With sincere apologies to Robert Zimmerman.

This a memory of John Neal’s days when we went to some very strange places.

The bit about the tickets being changed from about £5 to $7 is true, it happened at a few places, as they knew we had a really big away following and wanted to make a financial killing on the game.

They never even printed new match day tickets to hide the fact, they just crossed the old price out and added the new one!

peace.

kev.
