Tour de force

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “One second –
Just one ridiculous second!”

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 but what a tick-in-time
in a match peetering out
heading for stalemate
until a magic moment
swings the game
and a Cloughie truism
is borne again
melts into our minds
like toasted marshmallows
from a cosy campfire
and then re-ignites
the flame in our hearts
to remind us
why we live and breath
this most beautiful game

Notes

Kick started by a comment from the current leader of the 2008 Tour de France : Frank Schleck.

His quote was taken at the end of an earlier stage, when after a day of constant attacking, he ended up just one second behind the then yellow jersey holder, Cadel Evans.

His frustration was so eloquently put, especially considering English is not his native tongue.

Married with the classic quip from Brian Clough : “it only takes a second to score a goal”
