A tall skinny kid, just wanted to play
Always held on to his boyhood dream
To play for his beloved football team

Soon caught the eye of Bruce Rioch
Always a regular in the side
Blocking tackling he’d never hide

The big clubs came, all looking his way
The choices he had, which one to pick
For Europe and glory he signed for Celtic

A rock solid no nonsense man at the back
Then illness struck, an illness so vile
He’d fight all the way, that was his style

Along with the club, and friends in the sport
Mandy and the kids kept his spirits high
Sam and Heather the apples of his eye

He proudly signed for Everton
Through man and boy dreamed of this day
Fit and healthy and ready to play
