Waiting For The Draw

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 no-one can explain it
without oft-churned clichés
but like clockwork
or first buds in Spring
from time immemorial
and come the second week in January
it happens

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 for then
with snow on the ground
and mist in the air
on a certain Monday at lunch- time
with tingles in the tummy
and numbers and names to wish for or dread
you and I
and countless players
fans and dreamers
gather by radio and tv side
in dressing rooms and kitchens
factories and doorways
biting nails
and crossing fingers
exchanging brief smiles
but always the question
who do you wanna get …
and who to avoid
waiting for the draw?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 and what would you wish for
knowing full well anything at home would do?
when for those who langour
in tiny antiquated grounds
it’s story time and fantasy land
and thinking out loud
who knows –
perhaps
this just could be our year..
