WBA – All for one and one for all?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Captain Marvel,
(as some of us still remember him) :
Bryan Robson : Mystic Manager
(how is he still in a job, wonder a younger generation?) –
fought long and hard
but broached no bard (that we know of)
to exercise his right
to ease their plight
with a team building exercise.
A form of bonding
to prevent points absconding.
So the sunshine of Florida
was approved down the corrid’r
in the boardroom of the powers that be.
But, for to cross the sea,
or rather, to gain entry
into the US of A,
there first was the teaser,
of having the right Visa.
Yet, to Bry’s dismay
there was no way
his musketeers could travel.
A mystery,
of recent history,
for lawyers to unravel.
So while the palms sway
and the majority play
on coconut shores –
a hapless trio
share bynotes with Friio
while a suntanned team-mate scores –

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A hat-trick of goals
in front of non-plussed souls
plus one, just for good measure –
matched by the same in reply
that made the goalie cry
but which the beach bums will always treasure

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 So, with a public non the wiser
and his sunglasses lost, thus sporting cap ‘n visor,
along with his stars way out yonder
poor old Bryan could only ponder
at the puzzle
as the locals guzzle
and smile and wave goodbye y’all
how they could figure
(while we snidely snigger) :
to rejoice and exult
in this tour result –

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 All for one, and won four all?

Notes

apologies for the awful pun!

the poem changed tack half way through, after the initial thought process went awry.

inspired by –
the following news item from todays Teamtalk.com :

Bryan Robson’s attempts to improve team bonding at West Brom have been undermined by having to leave three players out of the trip to Florida.

The Baggies boss managed to persuade chairman Jeremy Peace to bankroll a sunshine break to the States despite the rockbottom club lying four points from safety following the dismal 0-0 home draw with fellow relegation strugglers Southampton in midweek.

Robson is hoping the trip helps players bond ahead of a tense finale to the club’s survival battle and said before leaving: “We have got a few new signings, so it is a chance for everybody to get to know each other and hopefully get a bit of sun.”

But Albion have been forced to leave Kanu, Zoltan Gera and Tomasz Kuszczak behind in the colder climates of the Black Country as they all had visa problems.

The Nigerian forward, Hungarian playmaker and Polish keeper all needed special dispensation from US authorities to enter the country.

the reference :
“bynotes with Friio” –
also in the news : David Friio’s transfer from Plymouth Argyll to Nottingham Forest.

And the match – a figment of my imagination.
The Baggies wouldn’t struggle against beach bums – would they?

no offence intended (this further pun, was!)
to our American cousins.

There are many, many fans there who appreciate the game as much as we do.

Do check out, the great poem by Thom Satterlee (also posted on this site today) : “The soccer ground at Canton, Georgia”
