We’re Not Here For The Ride

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Throngs of people shuffling, mostly common men
Songs of musicians busking, sound of coming train
Doors close tight behind us, up close, side by side
No seats left around us, but we’re not here for the ride

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Swish, swish, Warren Street, Euston,
The crowded doors open and close
Ladies alight, and men with suits on
I wish I could blow my nose

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A few more stops, then Arsenal,
At last, our goal is near
But we carry on to Finsbury Park,
For a wine or a nice cold beer

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 As we join the swarm in a funnel, excitement starts to soar
We know that the end of the tunnel, will lead to the Highbury roar
We soon meet up with Laurence, a gooner through and through
He tells us that today for once, he knows how we’re going to do

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 A meal and three wines later
He’s changed his mind once more
He thanks the Italian waiter
Then we head for the Highbury roar

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Lower stand, North Bank, we watch the teams come out
The lads emerge in single rank, and the fans begin to shout
Their names are sung out one by one, emotions running high
They turn, eyes squinting in the sun, their arms raised to the sky

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 A game at rapid pace ensues, Everton do their best
Wonder boy Rooney plays for the Blues, and puts us to the test
But you don’t need to ask the reason, why Arsenal win two one
In our first home game of the season, played in the summer sun

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Throngs of people shuffling, mostly common men
Songs of musicians busking, sound of coming train
Doors close tight behind us, up close, side by side
No seats left around us, but we’re not here for the ride
