What’s Gone Wrong?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Twelve months ago we were flying high
League One champions the year before
Back in the Championship and pushing hard
To win promotion to the top tier once more
We played well all year but for a November blip
To make the playoffs we were in with a shout
And we finished the season oh so close
With just goal difference keeping us out.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The bookies had us as promotion favourites
And they know that this league is tough
But just nine points from the first eight games
Is simply not enough
And we felt we were making progress
And that this season it would be our turn
But now we fans know in our heart of hearts
We’re about to crash and burn.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The manager who was our hero
Has now been dubbed ‘Tinkerman’
Due to his failure to pick a settled side
And his lack of any real plan
Some think that he is crazy
And he’s messing with our heads
By replacing our number one keeper
With a whizz kid on loan from the reds.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A wasted transfer window
It really makes me quite sad
When he brings in lower league players
No better than we already had
Our academy provides talented youngsters
And you can play them one by one
But when you field a team of kids
They just get overrun.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The Chairman’s dreams of Premiership glory
Have sadly been in vain
So he’s put the club up for sale
And will not be seen again
So now we need a new owner
A manager and some players would be grand
For all we have left is a fan base
And a very impressive new stand.

Notes

This season is not going according to plan for Wolves and now with the news that the club is up for sale, I can only hope that this poem appeals to any Russian or Arab billionaires out there!
