For a place in the last eight.
Sadly the twain met.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Insomniacs’ treat,
Bad mistakes proliferate.
Fans can’t work up sweat.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Neutral fans downbeat
Armchair viewers lie prostrate
Nothing to forget.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 An endurance feat.
Neither side can dominate.
Two sailboats beset.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Afraid of defeat,
Extra time hangs like a weight.
Not a trace of threat.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Control Alt Delete
Pixels slowly dissipate.
Is it over yet?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Portugal 0 Spain 1 (Round of 16)

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 And so began the Battle of Iberia,
The match to show which country was superior.
Both sides started with the right mentality,
Though of the two the Portuguese seemed wearier.
Torres yet again showed no vitality
But Spain were playing better in totality.
Ronaldo failed to garner much hysteria,
Lots of flash but little practicality.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 David Villa showed reliability
Showed his deadly goalscoring ability.
Xavi ran the midfield with impunity,
Defenders showed remarkable stability.
Portugal alas did not show unity
Ronaldo claimed he didn’t get immunity
The Spanish seemed to have too much mobility
And did not fail to take their opportunity.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 Eduardo showed incredible agility
Ronaldo soon became a liability
Portugal in general were inferior,
Didn’t show required flexibility.
As the game went on, their play got drearier
As if they’d been infected by bacteria.
Bowed out of the World Cup with humility,
Spain easy won the Battle of Iberia.
