The appointment of wee Denis Wise Has taken the Toon by surprise To have him as sidekick ain’t sound It should be the other way round Though Keegan’s enthronement was stirring It set the sports rumour-mill whirring With Redknapp et Al in the frame We wondered what was Ashley’s game There’s no doubt that Wise […]
They say being England manager Can seriously damage yer But Curbs is in the reckoning The hot seat it’s a-beckoning It’s bye-bye to McLaren His legacy is barren And ringing in the new We have to name a few But I say let’s have Curbs I’ll try to find the verbs To tell you why […]
Big Dunc Big Dunc Every mornning at the club, you could see him arrive. He stood 6 foot 6, weighed 245. Kind of broad at the shoulders, narrow at the hip. And everybody knew you didn’t give no lip to Big Dunc. Big Dunc Big Duh…unc Big Bad Dunc Big Dunc Nobody seemed to know […]
Whenever I log on it’s fine To switch hats to FoggontheTyne Instead of emitting a curse I just let off steam with bad verse The cause of my trouble is clear And I’m going to set it out here A bad case of faith unrequited Supporting Newcastle United And marra it’s been a hard road […]
The Prem is ManUfactured The Football League is fractured A terrible decision To split the four divisions The Hillsborough occurrence Lamented with abhorrence Was everyone’s excuse To let the wolfpack loose John Hall and Freddie Shepherd Were lurking like a leopard But following the buy-out We watched the millions fly out Were they enthusiastic Installing […]

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.

Hi Joe
Shouldn’t your title read your poem Farewell Europe England to everyone exccept Aston Villa ?
I know you mention them in your poem , but I do feel sorry for Villa re the national press .
Largely ignored. the hype was was all about Man City & Arsenal with a bit of a nod to the Hammers..but hardly a mention of Villa..
So well done to them

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Hey Kev
Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.
Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..
so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!
Best
