Today, in the warm July sunshine.
I visited an old junior school of mine.
Within its grounds I stood before.
A tribute plaque at a gardens door.A plaque carved from darkened stone.
For the 96 who never came […] -

18 Titles and 5 European Cups to our name.
And many domestic trophies to add to our fame.
We’ve seen open top buses to celebrate our feats.
With thousands of reds lining the Liverpool streets.
But now this latest […] -

Gone has the smokescreen, all lies and haze.
Clear is the truth, now freed from the maze.
The clouds have parted, once heavy and full.
The sky looks brighter, no longer winter dull.A Rainbow has appeared, a God […]

Twenty seven years on, it’s over at last.
Hopes once dashed, now all in the past.
Every single red has dreamt of this day. With every ghost, we can now finally lay.
Accidental Death verdict, now […] -

96 doves now take to the air.
96 doves to show we still care.
96 doves the colour of snow.
Into the sky, now home to go.96 doves a true sign of love.
Circle the Anfield skies above.
Doves that express spirits […] -

Tired with grief, with anguish and pain.
Weary of my tears falling like rain.
But still they fall, and guess always will.
The sorrow I felt then, feels the same still.Tired of the loneliness that my loss […]

Another anniversary arrives, again more tears to shed.
It’s the saddest day of the year for many a devoted Red.
The flowers are out in numbers, the scarves they multiply.
On the many cards I see, the message r […] -

A day so many life’s torn apart, never able to rebuild.
A City left gripped in sadness, all hearts with sorrow filled
This anniversary for many people will mean different things.
For me I’ll cry as ever, as tea […] -

In tunnels of darkness, they held on tight.
Now the pain goes on each day and night.
Justice we vowed would see the light of day.
We wouldn’t let corruption stand in our way.We waited and waited, the years just […]

3 points for us lately have been rather rare.
The 3 cups we where in,just became a pair!
And down the League table we slowly drop.
Not much to cheer about on the Spion Kop.But a victory over greed we have […]

Another season on, another ticket price rise.
They try to wrap it up in a clever disguise.
77 pound at Anfield, the cost of a seat.
They are pricing out the man on the street. So 77 minutes into this Saturday’s […]

It seems the week of the 3 all draw.
Late goals, controversy, action galore.
Was it 2 points dropped or I to gain?
Part and parcel of this beautiful game!So if your ‘win’ only became a draw.
Time to pick your […] -

So Rodgers departs and in comes Klopp.

Ourselves alone, felt that way at times.
Fighting the odds and corruption crimes.
Hurdles to clear, much red tape to cut.
Trying to catch liars on the back foot.Ourselves alone, how we felt at the start.

‘Stand on tiptoe’ a Dad wanted to say.
As the crush carried his young son away.

Hi Denys,
Yes Richard Williams you’re a brilliant wordsmith, my friend. When I first saw your football poetry I thought it was the superb Guardian sports and music writer. I once had the honour of sitting next to Richard Williams while at the Independent on the sports desk. He writes about music and sport with immense knowledge and authority. I’ve read a couple of Richard’s books recently. Great writer rather like you Richard Williams the Pompey fan. Congratulations on promotion.

Hi Joe
Shouldn’t your title read your poem Farewell Europe England to everyone exccept Aston Villa ?
I know you mention them in your poem , but I do feel sorry for Villa re the national press .
Largely ignored. the hype was was all about Man City & Arsenal with a bit of a nod to the Hammers..but hardly a mention of Villa..
So well done to them

Hi Crispin. Chris Sutton on the radio has gone for a Chelsea v Coventry final. As we know anything can happen in the Cup, and I reckon we can go to the final.
We’re still in with a chance of the play offs too, so lots to go for.

Hey Kev
Let the masses drool over their odds on City v Unted Final, but who knows how pressure can hit.
Cov and Chels will be rightly labelled as having no chance..but hey …stranger things have happened..
so Chelsea v Coventry…that’s the Final for us!
Best
