60s Revisited.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The Animals singing ‘Gonna send you back to Walker’
Inside the smokey Club a Go-Go
With buses lined up on Gallowgate
And just about to go go.
The clocks were striking midnight
As we headed South across the Tyne
Young Bobby Moncur was our skipper then
And big Wyn Davies led the line.
A Nineteen Sixties week-end
When we all were in our prime
Our destination Rotherham
With promotion on our minds.

Notes

Now 45 years later we are back chasing promotion but somehow I doubt if we’ll ever recapture those swinging 60s days.

Eds:
Great effort by John. Check out the vid. I was also fortunate enough to catch The Animals every Tuesday at The Scene Club in Soho c.64/65 or thereabouts. Back when you could say.. “going down the Bridge today mate?”, knowing you could get in but never sure of what you might get …a win or a thumping. United wil be back..that’s for sure. There’s a classic shot in the preview vid of the old St James’ Park in the snow which took me back to being ill in bed with heavy flu gazing longlingly at newspaper images of a much-postponed snowbound United-Chelsea FA Cup 3rd Round Cup Tie in that long white winter of 63 (I think?) …John will know! He might not wanna remember the score though.
